I generally dislike people who say fishing is cruel and should be stopped. Fox hunting IS cruel and deserves to be banned.
Scientists claim the fish aren't hurt by the hooks and you can always use barbles or practise catch and release.
If it wasn't for anglers, the waters would be over-loaded with small fish and it would be a poachers paradise.
