GENERATOR PICKS OF '92 - LIVE REVIEW
U2 G-Mex, Manchester - June
This gig promised to be one of the events of the year - and largely lived up to it. But it's hard to escape the impression that it's U2 themselves who are doing the promising.
They're not so young anymore, but have crafted 'young' sounds and rhythms skilfully into Achtung Baby. A powerful live thang, even if a little boastful.

GENERATOR PICKS OF '92 - ALBUM REVIEW
REM Automatic For The People
Sure, I'm going against the grain here, but what the hell. This album didn't do a whole lot for me - in fact it was a little (gasp)... disappointing.
REM may be the greatest band on earth, but that came to them circa 'Life's Rich Pageant', not with this one. Some tracks are moving, beautiful even, but often it's monotonous, drab, lifeless. They are capable of greater things.

OLD FOGEY COMEBACKS OF 1992
These oldies are more likely to be in your parents' record collection than in yours, but they were all cool to listen to again in 1992:
- Neil Young As good as he's ever been
- Bob Dylan Back to his classic roots
- Keith Richards Rockin' album and tour
- Leonard Cohen More rock visionary word-play from the old bard.
